Mike Colle was first elected as an MPP in 1995. In October 2007 he was re-elected to serve his fourth term to represent the Eglinton-Lawrence riding.

He currently serves as Chief Government Whip in the Provincial Legislature. Previously to being elected MPP, Mike served as a City of York Councillor, Metropolitan Toronto Councillor, TTC Commissioner and Chairman of the Toronto Transit Commission.

In Opposition, he served as a critic for the GTA, Transportation and Consumer Affairs. He also spearheaded a number of Private Member Bills that are now Provincial Legislation.

  • Oak Ridges Moraine Protection Act
  • Establishment of the Greenbelt across Southern Ontario
  • End of Mandatory Retirement for people over 65 years
  • Installing Red-light Cameras at high accident intersections across the province
  • Portable Heart Defibrillators (or AED) in public places across the province.
  • Passed Bill 124 - the Fair Access to Regulated Professions Act that removed barriers to licensing and accreditation for foreign-trained professionals.
  • Traditional Chinese Medicine, regulation and recognition.

Mike also fought to establish the Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park- north of Peterborough, and brought forth legislation to close down puppy mills and enhance animal protection.

He served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance where he brought forth Automobile Insurance Reform and the new Mortgage Brokers Act.

Mike served as Minister of Citizenship and Immigration where he signed the historic Canada-Ontario Immigration Agreement that resulted in $1 Billion in support for Ontario’s newcomers.

Locally, Mike has helped to save and restore the Eglinton Theatre - an architectural jewel in Toronto.

Mike has been a long-time advocate for reform of the Ontario Municipal Board and the Property Tax System. Mike is spearheading the campaign for the Eglinton Crosstown LRT.

Also, Mike is a volunteer member of the Forest Hill Lions Club and the Fairbank Legion, Branch 175. Mike also volunteers with Ride for Sight.

Mike is a life-long resident in Eglinton-Lawrence with his wife Sharon, his 4 children and his 4 grandchildren. Previous to his years of public service, Mike taught high school history at St. Michael’s College School and coached football.

Mike is a lifelong runner with 3 marathons to his credit and a P.B.T. of 3:29.
